Hello. I am Sam Marine, and this is my portfolio.
I’m a filmmaker, writer, digital creator & practicing multi-hyphenate artist originally from New York.
I’m one half of the filmmaking duo MILLENNIUM BLONDE, a production company founded with my husband, Michael Borowiec. Together we’ve written, directed, produced and edited music videos, award-winning narrative shorts and feature films. Our work has been recognized by Filmmaker Magazine, Variety, Frontières Financing & Packaging Forum, Frontières International Co-Production Market, and the 2022 Emerging Screenwriters Genre Competition where our feature screenplay SWING LOW was selected as a finalist.
Our debut feature film, MAN UNDERGROUND, won "Best First Feature" at Fantasia Film Festival and was distributed by Lionsgate/Indican Pictures with a limited U.S. theatrical release. We’ve since completed MAGGIE SO LOW, an improvised comedy short named one of NoBudge’s “Best Films of 2021.”
I also co-wrote and directed the surreal sitcom pilot I ADORE DOLORES, which won “Most Outrageous” at Orlando Film Festival, was named one of Vulture's "must-watch comedy shorts,” and was selected for The Gotham TV Series Lab, hailing it as “Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure for the Adult Swim generation.”
My commercial work as a producer/director has amassed over 350 million collective views across YouTube. My professional career began as a staff producer at CollegeHumor Originals, where I oversaw multiple seasons of the Webby Award-winning series Jake & Amir and Very Mary-Kate. The denim vest I wore regularly at that time even made a special appearance in one episode, where it was ruthlessly mocked.
As Senior Producer at Conde Nast Entertainment, I supervised the video production teams for WIRED, Vanity Fair & Teen Vogue and developed original programming across all CNE brands, including directing 7 episodes of Glamour’s hit series Your Body In 2 Minutes and two seasons of Kids Try for Epicurious. Other past employers include YouTube Originals, Disney, Coors Light, ESPN & Iranian visual artists Shoja Azari & Shirin Neshat.
Another one of my passions is teaching. I’ve taught screenwriting & directing University of North Carolina School of the Arts and SUNY Purchase College, and in 2021 I was awarded by OpenSUNY for “excellence in online instruction” for my course The Comedy Film.
BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! I write poetry, short stories & creative nonfiction, and have had pieces published in The New York Times and The Poughkeepsie Journal.
I also write music and play drums for the punk band BLOAF – you can check out our debut EP “Sounds Bad Man” on Spotify.
Growing up, I had originally planned to be a comic book artist, but decided to devote my life to filmmaking after my dad showed me Apocalypse Now. Soon after, I graduated with a BFA in screenwriting & directing from the SUNY Purchase Film Conservatory and was awarded for two of my student films, including The Sol Turrell Award for “Most Outstanding Film” for my senior thesis, MOTION SICK.
In 2024, Michael and I had our first child, Jack. He hasn’t seen Apocalypse Now yet, but maybe next year.
